In a game of runs, Hampton saved the best for last.

The Bulldogs erased a 15-point deficit in the fourth quarter and took a 73-67 overtime victory over University High. The Lady Bulldogs captured a 57-30 road victory.

In the first quarter of the boys’ game, things went the visitors’ way. Hampton jumped out to a 18-9 first quarter lead. UH battled back in the second quarter as fouls to take a 35-29 advantage.

The second half saw both teams struggle with foul issues. That allowed the Bucs to extend their lead double-digits in the start of the fourth quarter.

Hampton, however, wasn’t going to be denied.

The Bulldogs quickly trimmed their deficit to eight points midway in the final quarter and methodically closed the gap before tying the game in the final seconds.

In overtime, Hampton controlled the game as UH was limited due to foul trouble that limited them to three eligible players.

Gavin Hardin had 26 points to lead Hampton, while Dru Owens had 21 points.

In the girls’ game, Hampton set the tone early as they cruised to a 17-5 lead after the first eight minutes of play. After taking a 28-16 advantage into the half, Hampton outscored UH 19-4 in the third to leave no doubt.

Stephanie Campbell led the way with 20 points. Kinzey Hill had 13 points, and Shy Tuelle added 10 points to the Hampton cause.
