Hampton took care of business and celebrated a mile for Head Coach Ned Smith on Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs captured a 73-62 win over Johnson County in the District 1-2A consolation game – which was Smith’s 500th career win as head coach.
The Bulldogs are set to open the Region 1-2A tournament on Saturday at Austin East.
After Johnson County jumped out to an early lead, Hampton used a 13-1 run to take an 18-12 lead into the second quarter.
The teams went back and forth in the second quarter as HHS maintained a 34-29 halftime advantage.
Hampton set the tone with an 8-0 run to open the second half, and was able to keep Johnson County at bay to secure the win.
Chase Davenport tallied 23 points to pace Hampton, while Tuff Robinson had 18 points.
Jayden Nave and Jackson Smith finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Darren Chappell tallied 23 points to lead Johnson County.
