Hampton’s Smith, Elizabethton’s Nave Run To Second Place Finishes At TSSAA State Championships

A pair of Carter County athletes ran to second-place finishes on the state stage Thursday afternoon.

Hampton’s Jackson Smith and Elizabethton’s Arvella Nave finished in second in their respective races in the 2025 TSSAA Cross Country Championships at Shelby Farms Park in Memphis.

In Class A, Smith finished with a time of 16:30.14 to finish in second in his race.

In Class 2A, the Lady Cyclones were paced by sophomore Arvella Nave, who finished second with a time of 18:39.47 to lead Elizabethton to an eighth-place finish.

Madeline Issacs finished with a mark of 22:34.43 to finish 54th, while senior Helen Hackett finished 65th with a mark of 22:58.47. Jane Hackett finished with a time of 23:19.77 to come in 76th.

Ashleigh Hyatt and Addyson Merryman also had strong runs for Elizabethton.

For the Cyclones, the EHS boys tallied a 17th-place finish.

Elizabethton was led by senior William Snodgrass, who recorded a time of 17:23.84 to place 28th. Sophomore Louis Trivette came in 103rd with a mark of 19:06.34, while senior Owen Yang finished with a time of 19:15.51 for an 110th-place finish.

Grady Swearingin, Joubran El Helou, Josh Asche, and Skyler Hammond also had strong runs for Elizabethton.
