Happy Valley picks up sweep of UH

It was a good night to be a Warrior on Thursday night at University High.

Happy Valley picked up a nonconference sweep over the Jr. Bucs inside Brooks Gym as the Lady Warriors picked up a 68-36 win while the Warriors pulled away to take a 60-53 win.

In the boys’ game, Happy Valley edged ahead to a 17-11 first quarter lead with five points from Tyler Torbett. After the Warriors extended the advantage to double-digits, the Jr. Bucs closed the gap back to six points heading to the half.

Happy Valley took a 46-39 lead into the final quarter, and the Warriors secured the win on the foul line in the fourth.
Nathan Kyte paced the Warriors with 14 points, while Corey Matherly tossed in nine points. Josh Hammonds and Torbett ended the night with eight points.

In the girls’ contest, Kalee Johnson and the Lady Warriors jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they rolled to the win. After taking a 16-9 lead after a quarter, Happy Valley extended their lead to 35-17 at the half by outscoring the Lady Jr. Bucs 19-8.

The second half saw Happy Valley continue to hold the momentum as they cruised to the victory.

Johnson finished with a game high 16 points, while Kaylee Street scored 15 points. Jenna Eaton and Annie Woods had 11 and nine points, respectively. In all, nine Lady Warriors recorded points in the game.

Happy Valley returns to action on Saturday as they host Cloudland on Warrior Hill.
