Happy Valley nabs victories over North

KINGSPORT, Tenn – Happy Valley scored the sweep in varsity Three Rivers Conference action Tuesday night with the Warriors taking the nightcap against over the Sullivan North, 47-42.

In girls action, the Lady Warriors earned a 70-36 triumph over the Lady Golden Raiders.

The Lady Warriors moved to 18-7, TRC 7-4 and the Warriors advanced their record to 8-17, 2-9 in the league.

Head coach Chuck Babb and Co. stormed out the gates early with a 14-1 lead that aided the Warriors toward victory.

The Golden Raiders made a comeback with a 16-point third quarter but were unable to stop Austin Hicks and Nathan Kyte and their combined 25 points. Hicks led the Warriors with a team-high 15 points and Kyte dropped 10.

Josh Hammonds and Corey Matherly also combined for 11 points in the fourth the Warriors. Hammonds finished with nine and Matherly added five (5-of-6 from the free throw line).

Happy Valley’s scoring was rounded out by a 3-ball from Chase Young, two apiece from Ethan Barnett and Brayden Sams and Zack Hyder added a free throw.

Austin Smith led the Golden Raiders with a game-high 19 points.

Kalee Johnson went for 26 points and was joined by Jenna Eaton’s 14 points and Annie Woods with 10 to lead in double figures en route to the win. Johnson also eclipsed double-double status with 17 boards.

Nine Lady Warriors reached the scoring column: Brianna Buck (eight points), Beth Reece (four points), Makayla Frazier (four points), Emily Whitaker (three points), Kaitlyn Roberts (three points) and Kaylee Street with a free throw.

Sullivan North was led by 10 points from Rhealyn Salyers.
