Happy Valley splits with Johnson County

The Lady Warriors had no problem on Tuesday night. However, that momentum didn’t carry over for their boys’ squad.

Happy Valley’s girls cruised to a 81-31 victory over Johnson County in Three Rivers Conference action on Tuesday night, but the boys were unable to overcome an early deficit as they fell 55-40 to the Longhorns.

In the girls’ game, Jenna Eaton came out of the gate strong as she scored seven first quarter points to power Happy Valley to a 25-5 lead after a quarter of play. Kalee Johnson picked up steam in the second stanza as she scored six points as seven Lady Warriors scored in the quarter as HV took a 46-11 advantage into the half.

From there, Happy Valley left no doubt as they continued to control the game in the second half. Johnson led the way with 21 points, while Kaitlyn Roberts and Eaton tallied 16 points apiece. In all nine Happy Valley players recorded points in the game.

In the boys contest, the Longhorns jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the first quarter, and extended it to 33-17 at the half. Happy Valley played Johnson County even in the third quarter with 13 points, but was unable to close the gap in the final period.

Corey Mattherly led the way with nine points for Happy Valley, while Austin Hicks tallied eight points. Blevins tossed in seven points for the Warrior cause.
