Happy Valley takes games over UH

Happy Valley kicked off the week with a pair of victories on Monday night on Warrior Hill.

The Lady Warriors rolled to an 81-40 over University High, while the Warriors captured a 63-59 win over the Jr. Bucs.

In the girls’ game, Kalee Johnson scored 17 points and Bayley McGee added 15 points to power Happy Valley to the win.

After the Lady Warriors led 13-12 at the end of the first quarter, Happy Valley scored 27 points, 11 of which came from Johnson, to take a 21-point lead into the half.

Haley Green added six points and Sydney Puckett scored five points in the third quarter to help keep the Lady Jr. Bus at bay. Emily Whitaker had seven points in the final period for the Lady Warriors.

Whitaker finished with 10 points, while Charli Bare added eight points. Four Lady Warriors  (Kenzie Davis, Brianna Buck, Puckett and Green) scored six points.

In the boys’ game, Austin Hicks scored 20 points including going six-for-six at the free throw line in the final quarter to lead Happy Valley to the win.

Hicks started the game with five points in the first quarter to help HV take an 11-9 lead after the period. Chris Young added three baskets in the second while Nate Kyte added five points, but the Jr. Bucs held a 30-28 lead at the break.

Tyler Torbett found a groove in the third quarter with eight points to push the HV lead to 48-42 heading to the final quarter. From there, the Warriors iced the game to take the win.

Kyte finished with 21 points, while Young and Torbett finished 11 and 10 points, respectively.
