Happy Valley got back in the swing of things in a big way on Thursday night.

The Warriors erased a double-digit deficit to take a 76-71 double overtime victory over University High, while the Lady Warriors cruised to a 62-20 victory over the Lady Bucs.

In the boys’ game, it was a tight battle in the early going.

Neither team was able to get any separation from the other in the opening eight minutes as the game went into the second tied at 14-14. UH, however, started to take control in the second and pushed out to a 33-24 lead at the half.

After the Bucs extended the lead to 11 points in the third, HV answered with a run of their own to pull back within two possessions heading to the final stanza. The Warriors continued to fight in the final stanza and took a slim lead in the closing minutes of regulation. UH, however, tied the game in the final minute to force overtime.

In the first overtime, the teams played even with neither team able to secure the win. The Warriors, however, pushed ahead and never looked back in the second period of extra time.

Bryce Carter had 21 points to lead HV, while Brayden Sams recorded 20 points. Jacob Surcey added 14 points. Dakota Cochran also added 11 points to the HV cause.

In the girls’ game, HV set the tone early.

After taking a 16-7 advantage into the second quarter, the Lady Warriors hit the gas pedal and outscored the hosts 22-4 to take a 38-11 lead into the half. From there, it was all HV.

Bailey Ball recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds and 10 points to highlight the Lady Warriors.

Adrienne Henegar had a team-high 18 points and five steals. Kate Roberts and Haley Green had eight points apiece, while Roberts added seven assists and Green recorded four steals.
