The first round goes to Hampton.

The Bulldogs stormed to a 42-0 victory over Cloudland in the first of two meetings this season between the two county rivals as sophomore Conor Jones threw for four touchdowns and added one on the ground to lead the way.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 2-2 on the year, while Cloudland continues to look for their first win of the season with an 0-3 mark.

Hampton jumped out in the early going.

After Cloudland was forced to punt on the game’s opening drive, the Bulldogs went to work on a methodical drive. The 10-play drive came to an end when Isaiah Greenwell caught a Jones pass for a 33-yard touchdown.

On the ensuing drive, Hampton ended the CHS drive with a Jonah Jones interception, and the Bulldogs capitalized as C. Jones scored on a six-yard touchdown. That allowed Hampton to take a 14-0 lead into the second quarter.

Hampton pushed the lead to 21-0 as C. Jones found Caleb Oaks for a seven-yard score. Cloudland saw Conner Birchfield give the offense some life, but the ‘Landers saw the drive end short on a fumble recovered by Matt Hughes.

The Bulldogs took advantage of the sudden change as C. Jones had a long run that set up an Oaks touchdown from a yard out. Gage Chambers added the conversion. HHS took a 35-0 lead into the locker room as C. Jones found Hughes for a 25-yard touchdown in the final minute.

In the second half, Hampton ate up a large chunk of the third quarter with a sustained drive that ended when Jones hit Chambers for a 16-yard touchdown. Cloudland continued to battle, but was unable to get on the board in the final stanza.

Hampton was paced by C. Jones as he finished 7-of-10 passing for 145 yards, while adding 97 yards on the ground with 10 carries.

Matt Hughes and Macon Barden had 36 and 31 rushing yards, respectively.

As a team, Hampton outgained Cloudland 307-54.

Cloudland was paced by Birchfield’s 31 yards, while Hunter Blair added 19 tough yards.
