Lady Bulldogs Claim First District 1-A Title Since 2010

For the first time since 2010, the District 1-A Girls Champions reside in Hampton.

The Lady Bulldogs used a big second quarter to pull away and kept North Greene at bay to take a 55-42 victory in the District 1-A Championship game at West Ridge.

With the win, Hampton claimed the No. 1 seed for District 1 for the upcoming Region 1-A tournament and will host a quarterfinal on Friday night against Hancock County.

Monday night started off with a back-and-forth battle as Macy Henry and Linsey Jenkins combined to give the Lady Bulldogs a 9-6 lead midway through the first. North Greene jumped out in front despite shots from Madi McClain.
North Greene led 16-15 after a quarter of play.

Hampton took control in the second.

After Jenkins started the second with a trey, Taylor Berry hit back-to-back shots as Hampton scored the first eight points of the quarter.

The Lady Huskies answered with a quick run of their own, but Hampton scored 10 of the final 14 points in the half to take a 33-24 lead at the half.

North Greene battled cut the lead to six points midway through the quarter before Piper Helle and Berry pushed the advantage back to 11 after three complete.

Hampton was able to take care of business in the final quarter to secure the win.

Berry had 15 points for the Lady Bulldogs, while Jenkins had 11 points. Ryleigh Nickles and Henry had eight points apiece, while Helle and McClain had seven and six points, respectively.

Grace Buchanan led North Greene with 14 points.

Jenkins was named the tournament MVP, while Berry, McClain, and Henry were named to the All-Tournament team.
