Hampton opened the District 1-A tournament in style
The No. 4 Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 65-31 opening round win over University High on Thursday evening on Warrior Hill. With the win, Hampton advances to Friday’s semifinal against No. 1 Unaka and also secured a berth in the Region 1-A tournament.
It was all Hampton from early on.
Hannah Baird opened the game with back-to-back buckets before Hannah Smith added five straight points. After UH scored a bucket, Gracie Jenkins and Baird hit back-to-back 3-pointers that sparked a 14-0 Hampton run.
The Lady Bulldogs pushed the lead to 35-6 after a quarter of play.
The Lady Bucs opened the second quarter on a 9-2 run, but Hampton reeled off 14 straight to end the half and take a 51-15 advantage at the half.
In the second half, Hampton was never challenged as the Lady Bulldogs rolled to the semifinals.
Smith led Hampton with 26 points, while Baird added 15 points. Payton Ramey and Lexi Potter added eight and seven points, respectively.
Maggie Ryder and Emma Linkous led UH with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
