Hampton left no doubt.
The Lady Bulldogs advanced in style by dispatching University High 17-6 in the District 1-A Softball tournament play-in game.
With the win, Hampton advances into the double-elimination portion of the tournament and will take on North Greene on Monday at 7p. That tournament is being held at Unaka.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the game with three runs in the bottom of the first, but UH answered with four of their own in the top of the second.
Hampton, however, took control from there.
HHS played seven runs in the bottom of the second and added five more in the third to take a 15-4 lead after three completed.
The Lady Bucs cut into the lead with two runs in the fourth, but Hampton countered with two in the fifth to take the run-rule win.
Mallory Lamb went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Abby Willis and Abbie Lunsford had two hits apiece. Eight Lady Bulldogs recorded hits in the game.
Cheyenne Fair picked up the win as she allowed just three earned runs on six hits in five innings of work.
