Hampton was unable to extend the season on Monday night.
The Lady Bulldogs fell 83-54 to Alcoa in the Region 1-2A semifinals at Unicoi County. The loss brings Hampton’s season to a close.
Hampton used a balanced attack in the opening quarter with four players reaching the scorebook, but Alcoa was able to take a 19-12 lead into the second quarter.
Piper Helle scored seven points in the second quarter and Faye Carrico scored five, but the Lady Bulldogs were unable to cut into the Lady Tornado’s lead as Alcoa maintained a 38-24 halftime advantage.
In the third quarter, Hampton was unable to keep pace as Alcoa outscored Hampton 26-14 in the frame with 12 of Hampton’s points coming from the free-throw line.
The Lady Bulldogs kept battling but were unable to rally in the final eight minutes.
Hampton was led by Helle’s 21 points. Hannah Smith and Carrico had 11 points apiece.
Guie Carroll led Alcoa with 24 points. Maddy Stewart and Jacy Cox scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.
