For the second straight season, Hampton ended the District tournament as champions despite being in a new classification.

The Lady Bulldogs pulled away late to take a 57-47 victory over South Greene in the District 1-2A Championship game on Tuesday night at Daniel Boone.

Hampton won the District 1-A tournament last season before being bumped to 2A this season.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs will host Austin East in the Region 1-2A quarterfinals.

South Greene took an early advantage as the Lady Rebels took a 14-8 lead after a quarter of play.

The Lady Bulldogs continued to battle and stay in striking distance in the second quarter as Taylor Berry had five points in the frame. SG held a 24-20 lead at the half.

After a quick South Greene start to the third quarter, Macy Henry, Hannah Smith, and Berry hit big shots as Hampton was able to tie things up at 41-41 after three complete quarters.

The final quarter saw Hampton score the lone bucket over the first five minutes of the quarter. HHS scored six straight before SG was able to get on the board as Hampton held a 49-44 lead with just under two minutes to play.

From there, the Lady Bulldogs were able to take care of business at the free throw line to secure the win.

Berry had 18 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs, while Henry, who was named the tournament MVP, had 13 points.

Bre Hicks and Smith finished with eight and seven points, respectively. Piper Helle added six points.

Emma Cutshall scored 15 points for South Greene.
