Lady Cyclones Cruise Into Region 1-A Championship Game

Elizabethton wasn’t going to be denied Monday night.

The Lady Cyclones hit the gas early and rolled to a 72-39 victory over Tennessee High in the Region 1-3A semifinals inside Treadway Gymnasium.

With the win, Elizabethton advances to Wednesday’s Region 1-3A Championship game inside Treadway Gymnasium against Greeneville. The win also earned the Orange and Black a spot in Saturday’s sectional round.

It was all Elizabethton Monday night.

Lina Lyon scored eight early points, while Renna Lane and Olivia Holly added key baskets as EHS stormed to a 15-2 lead after a quarter of play.

Marlee Mathena provided a spark in the second quarter for the Lady Cyclones as EHS outscored the Lady Vikings 21-10 in the frame.

That allowed Elizabethton to take a 36-12 lead into the locker room at the half.

Holly helped the Lady Cyclones keep the momentum in the second half as she hit three 3-pointers and a free throw in the third quarter as Elizabethton put an exclamation point on the semifinal win.

Lyon ended the night with 23 points, while Holly had 19 points. Mathena and Lane had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Kendall Cross led Tennessee High with nine points.
