Elizabethton was unable to rally late on Wednesday.

The Lady Cyclones dropped a 7-2 decision to Volunteer in the Winners’ Bracket Finale in the District 1-3A tournament in Erwin.

Elizabethton moves into the losers’ bracket final scheduled for Thursday evening against the winner of Tennessee High and Unicoi.

With a win in Thursday night’s elimination game, the Lady Cyclones will earn a spot in the District 1-3A Championship game as well as a spot in next week’s Region 1-3A tournament.

Volunteer opened the scoring with a single run in the bottom of the first and added two more in the fourth.

Elizabethton, however, kept battling.

Maely Ingram hit a single to center field that pushed Cheyenne Poiroux across home plate for a single as EHS cut into the lead.

Volunteer extended the lead in the bottom of the sixth with four runs.

In the top of the seventh, Lela Byrd opened the frame with a home run, but EHS was unable to keep the rally going.

Ember Jensen, Poiroux, Byrd, and Ingram each had a hit for the Lady Cyclones.

Volunteer saw Addyson Fisher strikeout ten batters, while Kendra Huff went 3-for-3.
