Elizabethton had their backs against the wall in the early going on Monday afternoon. However, that didn’t stop the Lady Cyclones from taking care of business.

EHS erupted for nine runs in the later stages of the game en route to a 9-5 victory over Grainger County in the Region 1-AA Softball Tournament at Elizabethton.

With the win, the Lady Cyclones will host Unicoi County in the Region 1-AA Championship game on Wednesday and also secured a berth in Friday’s substate action.

Grainger broke through on the scoreboard first with two runs in the top of the third and held a 2-0 advantage going to the bottom of the fourth. That set the stage for an EHS rally.

Maci West was the first Lady Cyclone to touch home plate off a Hannah Edwards bat, while Maggie Johnson plated Haley Fair and Bailey Creasy to give Elizabethton a 3-2 lead going to the fifth.

In the fifth, EHS saw Lauren Brickey and Kira Dillard record RBIs to push the lead to three runs with two outs. A Creasy double to left field capped off the inning with two more runs as Elizabethton held a 7-2 lead.

The Lady Grizz got back on the board in the top of the sixth with a two-out two-run homer, but Elizabethton got the runs back in the home side of the fame as Brickey pushed Kaylin Shell and Macie Herrmann across home plate to cap the scoring.

Brickey was 3-for-4 at the plate and also pitched a complete game in the pitching circle as she allowed just five runs on six hits with nine strikeouts.

West was 2-for-3, while Creasy and Johnson had two RBI a piece. In all, Elizabethton had 12 hits.
