Lady Cyclones No. 1 in Class AA poll, Bulldogs fall to No. 6

The winning ways are staying the same for the ladies of John Treadway Gymnasium.

Elizabethton’s Lady Cyclones (16-0) were a unanimous No. 1 pick by all 17 voters in the Associated Press Tennessee Class AA basketball poll released today.

Elizabethton is currently on a 36-game winning streak carrying over from last season, with the most recent notch in their belt coming against Sullivan South on Friday, Jan. 9. The Lady Cyclones won the contest 69-25.

Hampton’s boys basketball team remained in the top 10 for Class A in the AP poll but fell two spots from last week to No. 6 after a loss to Elizabethton on Jan. 5. The Bulldogs rebounded back with a 80-52 win against North Greene last Friday.
Other notables: South Greene’s girls basketball team stayed at No. 2 and the North Greene girls moved up a spot to No. 9 from last week in the Class A poll. Both teams are in the Watauga Valley Conference, with Cloudland, Hampton and Unaka.
