The Lady Cyclones got rolling in the second half.

Elizabethton pulled away in the second half and rolled to a 5-27 victory over Cherokee in the Region 1-3A quarterfinals on Friday night inside Treadway Gymnasium.

The Lady Cyclones advanced to Monday’s semifinals against Grainger at 6p in Hal Henard Gymnasium in Greeneville.

It was a tight battle in the opening half.

After Marlee Mathena opened the scoring with a jumper, Cherokee reeled off the next five points to take a 5-2 lead midway through the quarter.

Olivia Holly evened the score with a 3-pointer with just under three minutes left in the first, and her trey in the final minute gave EHS an 8-7 lead after a quarter of play.

The Chiefs regained the lead a minute into the second quarter, but Lina Lyon and Katie Lee hit shots to push the Lady Cyclones back in front.

Cherokee tied the game with 4:34 left in the half, but back-to-back shots from Lyon and a Reily Whitson 3-pointer pushed the Lady Cyclone lead to 19-14 at the half.

Elizabethton pushed the lead to eight points to open the third quarter, but a Cherokee 3-pointer trimmed the advantage back to five.

EHS, however, ended the quarter on a 10-2 run to take full control heading to the final quarter.

From there, it was all Elizabethton as the Lady Cyclones outscored Cherokee 18-7 in the final quarter to secure the win.

Holly finished with 17 points to pace the Orange and Black. Lyon had 15 points. Renna Lane and Whitson had six and five points, respectively.
