Lady Cyclones Punch Ticket To State With Substate Win Over Gibbs

The Elizabethton girls’ soccer team is headed to Chattanooga.

The Lady Cyclones picked up a 2-1 (4-3 PKs) Class AA Substate victory over Gibbs on Saturday morning to advance to the Class AA State Championship inside Citizens Bank Stadium. Elizabethton is set to open the state tournament in Chattanooga on Tuesday.

After Gibbs opened the scoring with an Audreyanna Hughes goal in the 15th minute, Izzy Lewis countered in the 24th minute to even the score.

Both teams were unable to capitalize on chances in regulation, as regulation ended in a 1-1 draw.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in overtime as the game moved to penalty kicks.

Lewis connected on the first PK for the Orange and Black, while Camdyn Garland hit the second one. Arvella Nave hit the third penalty kick for EHS, and Abbie Krawcyzk recorded a save on Gibbs’ fourth attempt. Maddix Morton gave EHS the edge by finding the back of the net.

The Lady Eagles saw their final attempt hit the crossbar to seal the win for Elizabethton.
