Lady Cyclones Rally For Spot in District 1-3A Championship Game

Elizabethton rallied for a thrilling win to advance to the District 1-3A Championship game.

The Lady Cyclones saw Renna Lane score on a putback with 22 seconds remaining and Katie Lee scored in the closing seconds to lift EHS to a 55-52 victory over Volunteer in the District 1-3A Girls Semifinals at Volunteer.

With the win, Elizabethton advances to Monday’s Championship game against Sullivan East.

It was a back-and-forth battle for the entire 32 minutes.

Volunteer held a 21-16 advantage after a quarter of play as Elizabethton received six early points apiece from Lina Lyon and Olivia Holly.

Lyon had a strong second quarter as she scored eight of the 12 Lady Cyclone points in the quarter.

Defensively, Elizabethton allowed just seven points as the game tied at 28-28 at the break.

Points were hard to come by for EHS in the third quarter as they were held to just six points. That allowed the Lady Falcons to take a 40-34 advantage after three complete.

After VHS held a 47-41 lead with 4:41 left,

Elizabethton closed the gap to set up the frantic last minute to take the win.

Lyon led Elizabethton with 25 points – 10 of which came in the fourth quarter. Marlee Mathena had 13 points.

Holly finished with six points.

Audrey Evans led Volunteer with 15 points.
