The Elizabethton girls basketball team continued to take care of business on Friday night.

The Lady Cyclones pulled away for a 49-32 victory over Cumberland Gap in the quarterfinals of the Region 1-AA Tournament inside Treadway Gymnasium.
With the win, Elizabethton advances to play Grainger on Monday in the Region 1-AA semifinals with a substate berth on the line. Game time at Happy Valley is set for 6 p.m.


Against the Lady Panthers, EHS jumped out early.

The Lady Cyclones scored seven of the first eight points, and quickly had a nine-point lead. Elizabethton maintained a 15-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. After Cumberland Gap used a 6-1 run to even things up at 16-16, the Lady Cyclones ended the half on an 8-0 run to have some breathing room going into the half.

There was no doubt in the second half for Elizabethton.

Kaitlin Bailey scored seven points in the third quarter, while Morgan Headrick added four of her own to push the lead to 19 points with eight minutes to play. Elizabethton continued to limit Cumberland Gap opportunities in the final quarter to preserve the win.

Kaylen Shell had 18 points to lead Elizabethton, while Bailey tallied 16 points. Headrick added 11 points. Torrie Roberts scored four points in the win.

Cumberland Gap was paced by Kylie Fultz’s 10 points.
