Elizabethton softball got rolling on Monday night.
The Lady Cyclones plated 16 runs in two innings to roll to an 18-4 victory over Sullivan Central in the District 1-AA Softball tournament at Sullivan East.
With the win, Elizabethton advanced to take on Sullivan South at 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday in an elimination game with the winner advancing to take on Unicoi County at 7 p.m., in the loser’s bracket final. Sullivan East has secured a spot in Wednesday championship with a 13-1 victory on Monday over Unicoi County.
For the Lady Cyclones, the bats came alive against the Lady Cougars.
Sullivan Central jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Elizabethton countered as Madisun Pritchard hit a double to left field that brought Maggie Johnson and Kaylen Shell across the plate to even things up. The Lady Cougars retook the lead with a single run in the top of the second.
EHS tied the game in the home side of the frame as Hannah Edwards scored off a Maddie O’Quinn single. From there, it was all Elizabethton.
Kira Dillard knocked in two runs, while Shell pushed another across with a fielder’s choice. After Pritchard pushed Dillard across the plate, Marley Wagner hit a double that plated T. Roberts and Shell to give the Lady Cyclones a 9-3 lead after the second inning.
The third inning was much the same as Elizabethton plated nine runs in the frame to take an 18-4 lead.
Johnson led the way as she went 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Pritchard, Dillard and Wagner had three RBIs each. O’Quinn, Dillard, Pritchard and Wagner had two hits apiece.
In the circle, Pritchard allowed just four earned runs on four hits.
