The Elizabethton softball team was unable to extend the season on Monday night.
The Lady Cyclones fell 7-1 to Tennessee High in the District 1-3A tournament elimination game at David Crockett. Elizabethton’s season came to a close with the loss.
After retiring the Lady Vikings in order to open the game, Elizabethton saw Mikinna Blackwell get the first hit of the game with a two-out single in the bottom of the first, but EHS was unable to move the runner.
Tennessee High opened the scoring in the visiting side of the second with a two-run home run by Macie Strouth, and the Lady Vikings pushed the lead to 4-0 in the top of the third.
Sadie Williams and Katlyn Gryder reached base in the bottom of the third, but EHS was unable to strike.
In the bottom of the fourth, Elizabethton saw Piper Bennett and Lacey Gobble reach via error, and Brooke Sparks loaded the bases with a single. Lilly McDuffie hit a shot to left field that allowed Bennett to score.
The Lady Cyclones were unable to cut into the lead any further as EHS trailed 4-1 going to the fifth.
Tennessee High added a run in the fifth before a double-play ended the inning, and THS added two more in the seventh.
Elizabethton kept fighting but was unable to rally in the final frame.
McDuffie had a hit and an RBI for Elizabethton, while Williams, Gryder, Blackwell, and Sparks each had a hit. Bennett had a run scored.
In 6.2 innings of work, Gobble struck out six batters and allowed five earned runs on nine hits.
For Tennessee High, Abby Haga went 4-for-4 with an RBI, while Lily Ware and Strouth had two RBI apiece. Carrington Harris picked up the win in the pitching circle as she struck out nine batters and allowed no earned runs on three hits in six innings of work.
