For the fourth time in five years, the Lady Cyclones are playing for a District championship.
No. 2 Elizabethton pulled away in the second quarter and rolled to a 75-40 win over No. 3 Tennessee High on Saturday afternoon in the District 1-3A Semifinals at Sullivan East. With the win, Elizabethton will face the winner of No. 1 Daniel Boone and No. 4 David Crockett in Monday’s championship game.
Jamira Smalls and Rylee May provided an early spark for EHS as Smalls scored eight points in the first quarter and May scored seven to push EHS to a 21-12 lead after eight minutes of play.
In the second quarter, the Lady Cyclone defense took over. EHS held the Lady Vikings to just five free throws in the quarter, while EHS scored 19 points to take a 40-17 lead into the half.
Any thought of a Tennessee High comeback was quickly squashed in the third quarter as the Lady Cyclones continued to have the momentum.
Sydney Minton scored 18 points to lead Elizabethton – including 10 in the second quarter – while May scored 15 points. Addison Bunn and Smalls tossed in 14 points apiece. Adrian Heading scored 10 points.
