Elizabethton was unable to answer a late big inning from David Crockett.

The Lady Cyclones fell 5-2 to the Lady Pioneers in the winner’s bracket of the District 1-3A tournament at Rotary Park in Bristol.

With the loss, Elizabethton moves into a Tuesday night elimination game against the winner of Tuesday’s Sullivan East and Unicoi County contest. David Crockett advanced to take on Tennessee High in the winner’s bracket finale.

After Crockett added a single run in the first and another in the second, Elizabethton countered in the top of the third.

Grace Whaley was hit by a pitch to open the frame, and Mollie Johnson hit a single to left field. Emma O’Quinn hit a single to plate Whaley. The next at-bat saw Lela Byrd drive Johnson across home plate with a sac fly to even things up at 2-2.

Neither team was able to get anything going in the fourth.

The Lady Pioneers saw Julie Maupin hit a 3-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-2 lead.

The Lady Cyclones were able to get the tying run to the plate in both the sixth and seventh innings. However, EHS was unable to plate the runs to rally back.

Johnson had two hits at the plate to lead EHS, while Sadie Williams and O’Quinn each added a hit.

In the pitching circle, Byrd struck out six batters and allowed just three earned runs on five hits.
