Lady Cyclones Unable To Rally In Region 1-3A Title Game

Elizabethton was unable to battle back from an early deficit on Wednesday evening.

The Lady Cyclones fell 7-2 to David Crockett in the Region 1-3A Championship game at Crockett. Elizabethton is set to face Cocke County in the Class 3A Sectionals on Friday night at Cocke County.

The Lady Pioneers jumped out early.

DC plated three runs in the home side of the first to take control early. EHS was able to get a runner in scoring position in the third, but was unable to drive the runner across the plate.

The Lady Pioneers scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-0 lead.

Elizabethton, however, kept battling.

Sadie Williams opened the sixth inning by drawing a walk before Lacey Gobble hit a single. Williams scored when Ava Hanson hit a single, and Gracie Shepard knocked a run across the plate for EHS. The Lady Cyclones were unable to keep the inning going.

After Crockett added a run in the bottom of the sixth, EHS loaded the bases to open the seventh as Adrian Heading reached via error, and Williams and Gobble each recorded a single. The Lady Cyclones, however, were unable to keep the rally going.

Gobble was 3-for-4, while Hanson had two hits and an RBI. Shepard had a hit and an RBI.

Emilee Whitson, Willians, and Heading each added a hit.

Madelyn Dunlaney struck out nine batters for David Crockett.
