Lady ‘Landers, Bulldogs Take Wins In County District 1-A Clash

It was a split result in a District 1-A county clash on Friday night.

The Lady ‘Landers outlasted Hampton for a 56-40 victory, while the Bulldogs pulled away with a big second-quarter run to take a 78-30 win over Cloudland.

In the girls’ game, the teams traded runs in the opening quarter with Cloudland using a 7-0 run to end the first to take an 18-11 lead into the second quarter. After neither team was able to score for over four minutes to open the second quarter, Cloudland’s Makinna Shell drained a 3-pointer. Cloudland outscored the Lady Buildogs 10-2 in the frame to take a 28-13 lead into the half.

Eowyn McCoury hit big shots to open the third quarter and CHS pushed the lead to 43-24 after three complete quarters. Hampton, however, didn’t go quietly as Daisy Parks and Hannah Smith helped the ‘Lady Bulldogs trim the CHS lead to 10 points with just over three minutes to play. Abriella Jones and Shell answered for Cloudland as the Lady ‘Landers were able to hold off the Hampton rally.

Jones led Cloudland with 13 points, while Shell added 12 points. E. McCoury had 11 points. Savanna McCoury scored eight points.

Parks recorded 13 points to pace Hampton. Smith finished with 12 points. Hannah Baird added eight points.

In the boys’ game, Hampton jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opening minutes, but CHS responded with a quick 6-0 run. The Bulldogs reeled off an 11-0 run before Cloudland hit back-to-back shots as HHS held a 19-10 lead after a quarter of play.

Hampton opened the second quarter on a 21-0 run to take full control of the game.

The Bulldogs saw Chase Davenport lead the way with 15 points, while Kaden Jones scored 14 points. Colby Clark added 11 points. Tuff Robinson and Logan Lunsford had seven points each.

Gavyn Shell led Cloudland with 10 points. Uriah Jarrett scored seven points, while John Wilson scored five points.
