Lady ‘Landers Claim District 1-A Tournament Title

Cloudland’s defensive pressure led the way to a District 1-A Championship on Monday night.

The Lady ‘Landers turned the pressure up and rolled to a 52-26 victory over North Greene to claim the District 1-A Championship at Happy Valley.

It is Cloudland’s first District 1-A Tournament title since 2014.

With the win, the Lady ‘Landers get a bye in the quarterfinal of the Region 1-A tournament and will open the tournament in the semifinal round on Monday at Cosby.

North Greene had a quick start as Ella Head scored five points in the early going, and the Lady Huskies took a 10-2 lead six minutes into the game. Cloudland got rolling as Izabella Christman and Makenzie Street hit back-to-back shots, but NG held a 12-6 lead after a quarter of play.

The teams traded baskets to open the second quarter as NG held a 14-8 lead. From there, however, Cloudland turned up the pressure and took full control.

Makinna Shell kickstarted a 9-0 run over the final five minutes of the second quarter to power CHS to a 17-14 lead at the half.

After NG hit a three to open the second half, Saharra McKinney and Street hit back-to-back buckets, and those shots sparked a 17-2 run to end the third quarter.

The Lady ‘Landers left no doubt as they scored the first 11 points of the final quarter.
After NG took a 14-8 lead in the second, Cloudland outscored the Lady Huskies 44-12 the rest of the way.

Street scored 14 points to power CHS, while Ryan Turbyfill and Shell had 10 points apiece. McKinney and Christman scored eight and seven points, respectively.

Head led North Greene with 14 points. Hailey Bailey scored five points.
