Lady ‘Landers Cruise To District 1-A Semi Win

Cloudland opened the District 1-A tournament rolling and never looked back.

The Lady ‘Landers scored the first 12 points of the game and cruised to a 63-18 win over University School in the semifinals of the District 1-A tournament at Happy Valley.

With the win, Cloudland advanced to Monday’s District 1-A Championship game against the winner of the North Greene and Unaka contest. CHS also secured a home game for the Region 1-A Quarterfinals.

Once Cloudland got things going, it was all Lady ‘Landers.

Izabella Christman opened the scoring with Makinna Shell adding back-to-back buckets to give CHS a 6-0 lead midway through the first. Makenzie Street, Ryan Turbyfill, and Christman hit shots to give CHS a 12-0 lead before the Lady Bucs got on the board with just over a minute to play in the quarter.

Cloudland led 12-2 after a quarter of play.

The teams traded shots to open the second quarter before Cloudland went on a 15-0 run to close the half and take a 33-7 lead into the half.

From there, the Lady ‘Landers were able to cruise to the win as CHS outscored the Lady Bucs 13-5 in the third and used a 14-2 run in the fourth to leave no doubt.

Turbyfill led Cloudland with 19 points, while Shell had 15 points. Christman scored 11 points in the win. Street added six points.

Vania Ortiz had nine points to lead University High.
