The Lady ‘Landers got a big win on the board on Friday night.
Cloudland picked up a 43-35 victory at North Greene to bounce back from Tuesday’s loss to Hampton. In the boys’ game, the ‘Landers fell 45-33 to the Huskies.
The girls’ game saw Cloudland hold a slim 10-8 lead at the end of the first quarter as Johanna Johnson and DonRae Taylor recorded a 3-pointer apiece in the frame. Shian Strickland had seven points in the second quarter to push the CHS lead to 21-17 at the half.
Cloudland took control of the game for good in the third quarter as the Lady ‘Landers put 17 points on the board while allowing NG just four points. The Lady Huskies made a run in the fourth quarter to close the gap, but Cloudland held on for the win.
Strickland had 20 points to lead the Lady ‘Landers. Trinity Vines had six points, while Megan Lunsford and Taylor had five points apiece.
In the boys’ game, points were at a premium.
Cloudland held a 9-6 lead at the end of the first quarter with four ‘Landers reaching the scorebook. Jason Potter scored four points in the second quarter to help CHS hold a 15-10 lead at the half.
Cloudland hit a snag in the third quarter as North Greene went on a 14-0 run to take a 24-15 lead heading into the final quarter. The ‘Landers got back on track in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to get back in front of the Huskies.
Preston Benfield had 14 points – 11 of which came in the fourth quarter – to lead Cloudland. Potter finished with six points.
For the game, North Greene held a 24-2 free throw advantage.
