Lady ‘Landers, ‘Landers Unable To Overcome Quick Cosby Starts

Cloudland was unable to overcome quick Cosby starts on Monday night.

The Lady ‘Landers dropped a 56-36 decision to Cosby in nonconference action while the ‘Landers fell 69-51 to the Eagles inside Sonny Smith Gymnasium.

In the girls’ game, the teams traded points early before Cosby reeled off a 9-0 run. Cloudland answered with a 6-0 run of their own but the Lady Eagles held a 17-10 lead after a quarter of play.

Abby Clawson hit two early shots in the second quarter for Cloudland, but Cosby countered to push the lead out. Abriella Jones and Makenzie Street hit shots for the Lady ‘Landers to end the half on a 5-0 run as CHS trimmed the Cosby lead to 28-19.

Cloudland quickly cut into the Cosby lead to open the third quarter, but the Lady Eagles used a run to take a 43-28 advantage into the quarter.

The Lady ‘Landers continued to battle in the fourth as Makinna Shell and Street sparked a 8-0 run. However, Cosby ended the game on an 8-0 run of their own to secure the win.

Shell led Cloudland with 12 points, while Clawson added 10 points. Street and Jones scored seven and five points, respectively.

Shylee Shelton led Cosby with 20 points, while Azariah Spurgeon had 13 points.

In the boys’ game, Cloudland had to battle back from an early deficit.

After Uriah Jarrett converted an old-fashioned 3-point play to give CHS a 3-2 lead, the Eagles went on a 23-3 run before Nick Caraway ended the quarter with a 3-pointer. Cosby led 26-9 at the end of the second.

The Eagles continued to have the hot hand as Cosby pushed the lead to 37-15 at the half.

Cloudland continued to battle in the second half, but was unable to rally back past the Eagles.

Jarrett recorded 18 points to pace Cloudland. Caraway finished with 17 points.

Bryce Birchfield added six points.

Cruz Coggins led Cosby with 20 points, while Cooper Davis and Draiden Sneed had 11 and 10 points, respectively.
