Cloudland wrapped up their Knoxville trip with a split on Friday night.
The Lady ‘Landers captured a 45-32 victory over Wartburg, but the ‘Landers dropped a tough 74-73 overtime decision to the Bulldogs.
In the girls’ game, Cloudland wasted no time.
Trinity Vines scored six first-quarter points to power CHS to a 17-2 lead after eight minutes of play. Wartburg, however, flipped the script in the second as they outscored Cloudland 14-4 in the stanza. The Lady ‘Landers held a 21-16 advantage at the half.
After the teams played nearly even in the third quarter, Cloudland erased any thoughts of a Wartburg rally with a balanced attack.
Vines led Cloudland with 14 points, while Megan Lunsford and Jasmine Birchfield had eight points each. Stacia Wilson had six points.
In the varsity nightcap, Cloudland fell into an early hole.
Wartburg jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the first quarter, but the ‘Landers battled back to trim the deficit to 34-31 at the half.
With a pair of 3-pointers from both Bentley Gilbert and Hunter Shell, CHS stayed right with the Bulldogs in the third quarter. The ‘Landers conn tuned to battle and forced overtime with a Connor Birchfield 3-pointer. In the extra period, Wartburg was able to snag a one-point victory.
Robert Leeper had 18 points to lead Cloudland. Gilbert scored15 points, and Birchfield added 12 points. Elijah Blair and Shell had nine points each.
