Lady ‘Landers Pull Away To Advance In Region 1-A Tournament

Cloudland extended the season on Friday night with a strong second half.

The Lady ‘Landers pulled away to take a 48-34 victory over Cosby on the road in the Region 1-A Quarterfinals. With the win, Cloudland advances to Monday’s semifinals against Hampton in a win-or-go-home game.

That game is slated for a 6p tipoff at West Ridge.

On the road Friday night, Cloudland’s Ella Benfield scored early points, while Ryan Turbyfill added a bucket as CHS led Cosby 9-8.

The game continued to be a back-and-forth battle as CHS saw Kendall Birchfield, Makenzie Street, and Layken Blair add key shots to go along with buckets from Benfield and Turbyfill.

Those shots gave Cloudland a 21-20 halftime lead.

The Lady ‘Landers slowly started to pull away in the third as Turbyfill and Benfield scored four points in the frame, while Katie Baldwin hit a key 3-pointer as CHS pushed the advantage to 37-27 after three complete.

In the fourth, Cloudland continued to limit the Lady Eagles to secure the win and advance.

Benfield had 15 points to pace Cloudland, while Turbyfill had 13 points. Birchfield added six points, while Blair scored five points.

Shylee Shelton had nine points for the Lady Eagles, while Ariel Ottinger scored eight points.
