It was a classic clash in the District 1-A Consolation game on Monday evening.
Cloudland erased a deficit to rally past Hampton to take a 46-42 victory on Warrior Hill. Both teams will open the Region 1-A tournament on Friday night, as Cloudland will travel to the loser of the District 2-A Championship game between Cosby and Washburn while Hampton will travel to the loser.
After Daisy Parks opened the scoring with a jumper, Abriella Jones answered for Cloudland with Eowyn McCoury and Savannah McCoury adding baskets to push CHS into the lead at the midpoint of the quarter. Hannah Smith broke the Cloudland run before the teams traded shorts with the Lady ‘Landers taking an 8-6 lead into the second quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs saw Baleigh Matthews kick off a 7-0 run to open the quarter. Cloudland countered with a quick four points from Makinna Shell with a steal after a made basket. Hampton held a 15-14 advantage at the half.
In the third quarter, the teams traded shots to open the frame before Hannah Baird drained a 3-pointer that sparked a 14-4 Hampton run. Cloudland answered as S. McCoury reeled off five straight to end the frame as Hampton maintained a 33-27 lead after three complete quarters.
The Lady Bulldogs used buckets from Baird and Smith to push the lead out to 37-29 before S. McCoury hit a 3-pointer to break the run. After Smith hit a jumper for the Lady Bulldogs, S. McCoury hit another trey that sparked a 14-3 Cloudland run that propelled the Lady ‘Landers to the win.
S. McCoury led Cloudland with 19 points. Shell scored eight points, while Jones finished with seven points.
Smith scored 14 points to pace Hampton. Baird added 12 points, while Parks finished with 10 points.
