It was a split decision on Warrior Hill Monday night.
Cloudland and Happy Valley split a pair of varsity games as the Lady ‘Landers captured a 66-26 victory over the Lady Warriors, while the Warriors took a 61-42 win over the ‘Landers in the nightcap.
In the boys’ game, it was a back-and-forth battle in the opening half.
Cloudland took a 6-3 lead midway through the first quarter as Uriah Jarrett scored three straight points. Ron Paul Parker and Austin Nickels added points as part of a 6-0 HV run as the Warriors took the lead and pulled out to a 13-8 lead after a quarter of play.
After Lane Parker hit a Warrior basket to open the second quarter, Nick Caraway sparked a 9-2 run to tie the game at 17-17.
HV, however, responded with a 10-0 run and took a 29-22 advantage into the half.
The teams traded shots to open the third quarter before HV reeled off a 10-1 run to extend the lead. HV led 42-31 after three complete quarters.
Cloudland continued to battle, but HV was able to keep the ‘Landers at bay to secure the win.
Austin Stines and R. Parker had 16 points apiece to lead all scorers for Happy Valley. Nickels scored 11 points, while L. Parker added eight points.
Jarrett led Cloudland with 11 points, while Caraway had 10 points. Bryce Birchfield scored nine points.
In the girls’ game, Cloudland methodically pulled away after HV took control early.
Josephine Zeoli hit a 3-pointer to open the game before Cayden Anderson and Ashlynn Sommers hit back-to-back buckets to give HV a 7-0 lead. Eowyn McCoury answered with five straight Cloudland points before Jayla Harper and Savannah McCoury added shots to give CHS a 10-7 advantage.
The teams traded shots before CHS saw Makinna shell and Reagan Blair hit shots to end the quarter with the Lady ‘Landers holding a 16-12 lead after a quarter of play.
After the teams traded shots to open the second stanza, Cloudland ended the quarter on a 15-2 run – including an 11 straight from McKenzie Street – to take a 35-18 halftime lead.
The Lady ‘Landers continued to hold the momentum in the second quarter to roll to the win.
Street led Cloudland with 19 points, while Shell scored 10 points. E. McCoury and Blair had eight and seven points, respectively.
Anderson had 10 points for HV, while Zeoli had six points. Sommers finished with four points.
