The Cloudland softball team used some seventh-inning heroics to keep their season alive on Tuesday night.
Facing elimination, Cloudland plated two runs in the home side of the final inning to take a 5-4 victory over University High in the District 1-A tournament at Sullivan North in an elimination game.
Earlier in the day, the Lady ‘Landers dropped a hard-fought 4-3 loss to North Greene to fall into the losers’ bracket.
In the UH game, Cloudland went to the final inning trailing 4-3. Krisi Bare pushed Jasmine Birchfield across home plate to tie the game up, and then Kaylen Fields scored the winning run while a rundown was occurring between first and second base.
Birchfield finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate, while Fields and Bare added two hits apiece.
Cloudland now awaits the loser of the Unaka-North Greene for a berth in the District 1-A Championship game as well as a berth in the Region 1-A tournament.
First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
