The Unaka girls basketball team cruised into the District 1-A semifinals on Friday night.

The Lady Rangers jumped out early and never looked back en route to a 49-22 victory over Sullivan North in the District 1-A tournament at North.

Unaka will take on Cloudland in Saturday’s 7 p.m., semifinal with a berth in Monday’s championship game on the line. UHS also secured a Region 1-A tournament berth.

Against North, it was smooth sailing for the Lady Rangers.
Unaka pitched a shutout in the opening quarter, and was sparked on the offensive side by Myah Parlier to an 11-0 lead at the end of the first

The Lady Rangers continued to keep the pressure on North by allowing just three points in the second quarter. That allowed Unaka to roll to a 22-3 lead at the half.

There was never a doubt of the outcome in the second half as Unaka pulled their starters midway through the third quarter after leading by 33 in the stanza. That allowed UHS to get some younger kids playing experience in the tournament.

Parlier led Unaka with 18 points.
