The defending Class A state champions proved to be too much for the Unaka softball team on Tuesday.
The Lady Rangers dropped a 13-0 decision to Summertown on the opening day of the TSSAA Class A State Tournament in Murfreesboro. With the loss, Unaka falls into a Wednesday elimination game against Gibson County.
First pitch at Starplex #4 is set for 11am Eastern/10am Central.
Against Summertown, the Lady Rangers hung tough early.
Unaka held Summertown to just one run in the first and another in the second. Taylor Shanks led the third inning off with a walk, but UHS was unable to get anything going in the frame.
Summertown added a run in the third and then the Lady Eagles took control by plating 10 runs in the home side of the fourth.
The Lady Rangers were held hitless in the game.
In the circle, Sadie Shoun got the starting nod as she allowed six earned runs on seven hits. Kailey Wilson pitched an inning of relief for the Lady Rangers.
