West Greene 60, Unaka 55 (girls)
The Lady Rangers kept battling back but came up short in nonconference action.
After falling behind by 11-0 in the opening quarter, Unaka battled back to close the gap to four points. West Greene pushed the lead out, but the Lady Rangers battled back once again and closed within 43-42 after three complete quarters.
Lyndie Ramsey had 32 points to lead Unaka, while Lauren Lund had six points. Hannah Yantz and Katlyn Dugger had five points apiece.
Emma Taylor scored four points.
West Greene 63, Unaka 61 (boys)
The Rangers dropped a heartbreaker on Monday night.
Unaka held a two-point lead with 13 seconds left in the game, but the Buffaloes were able to tie the game and take advantage of a technical foul due to no timeouts left to take the win.
It was a back-and-forth battle as the teams were tied at 18 after a quarter of play, and Unaka used a 9-2 run to take a 31-29 halftime lead.
The back-and-forth nature continued throughout the second half with the teams swapping the lead throughout the final 16 minutes.
Mason Wilson had 21 points to lead the Rangers, while Joe-Z Blamo tossed in 16 points.
