Lady Rangers see season end in state tournament

Unaka came up short on Wednesday.

The Lady Rangers saw their season come to a close with a 10-0 loss to Scotts Hill in the Class A Softball tournament. Unaka finishes the 2017 season with a 28-15 record.


The Lady Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning – including a two-run homerun. Unaka got a baserunner aboard in the top of the second with a Madison Ensor single, but the Lady Rangers were unable to bring the run home.

Mother Nature stalled the game in the bottom of the second with a rain delay. The first pitch was also delayed due to weather in the area.

After Unaka went three and out in the top of the third, the Lady Lions added three runs to increase the lead to 6-0 in the home side of the frame. Katlyn Weaver got a two-out single for Unaka in the fourth, but a strikeout ended the inning.

The Lady Lions added four runs in the home side of the fourth to secure the win.

Weaver and Ensor went 1-for-2 to lead Unaka at the plate.

In the pitching circle, Sarah Hardin recorded three strikeouts. As a team, Unaka committed five errors.
