Lady Rangers upend Hampton, Bulldogs cruise

The Lady Rangers made a splash of the district race.

Unaka jumped out early to capture a 65-54 victory over Hampton on Tuesday night to mix up the District 1-A girls race. The Hampton boys cruised to a 74-43 win over the Rangers.

The Lady Rangers captured a 18-13 lead in the first quarter, and then outscored Hampton 20-12 in the third to pull away to the win.

Sierra Wright led Unaka with 16 points, while Katlyn Weaver and Hannah Tipton added 15 points apiece. Savannah Tipton tallied six points.

Alexus Grubbs paced Hampton with 26 points, and Shyanne Tuelle tallied 23 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

In the boys’ game, Hampton jumped out to a 21-4 lead in the first quarter, and outscored the Rangers 22-10 in the second quarter. From there, it was all Bulldogs.

Dakota Crumley scored 12 points to lead Hampton, while Jose Velasquez and Coby Jones had 11 points apiece. Adam McClain and Nathan Norris had nine and eight points, respectively.
