An upset-minded Happy Valley girls’ basketball team came up short on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Warriors were unable to answer a second-half Chuckey-Doak run as they fell 56-20 in the District 1-2A semifinals on Saturday at Unicoi County High School.
Happy Valley will take on South Greene in Monday’s consolation game. The Lady Warriors have also qualified for the Region 1-2A tournament.
Cayden Anderson scored six early points for HV but the Lady Black Knights were able to take an 18-11 lead after a quarter of play.
Bailee Jarrett hit a jumper in the second quarter while Ashlynn Sommers added a pair of free throws but HV saw CD extend the lead to 28-15.
In the second half, Happy Valley continued to battle, but was unable to keep pace with Chuckey-Doak.
Shanicee Gardner and Anderson had five points apiece to lead Happy Valley, while Jarrett finished with four points.
Kennedy Brown finished with 14 points to lead Chuckey-Doak.
