Happy Valley had their backs to the wall on Wednesday evening. However, the Lady Warriors weren’t ready for their season to come to a close.
HV stormed back to erase a 7-0 lead to take an 8-7 victory over Johnson County in a play-in game of the District 1-AA Softball tournament.
The Lady Warriors advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament where they will face Sullivan South on Thursday at 7 p.m., at Sullivan East.
The Lady Longhorns started the game strong by taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning, and maintained a 7-0 lead going to the bottom of the fifth. In the bottom of the sixth, Happy Valley got the offensive attack rolling and plated seven runs to take the lead and to extend the season.
In the circle, Abby Holt had a strong showing as she allowed just seven runs on 11 hits.
Maddie Lingerfelt was 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the way. Lingerfelt had what turned out to be the game-winning RBI.
Laura Rice was also 3-for-3, while Olivia Absher represented the game-winning run and also drove in one of her own. Cierra Southerland scored two runs and had a double.
Bella Miller led Johnson County with a 2-for-4 performance with two runs scored.
