Happy Valley came up short on Wednesday night despite a hard-fought effort.
The Lady Warriors saw the season come to a close with a 50-39 loss to Unicoi County in the opening round of the District 1-2A tournament. Unicoi advanced to take on Johnson County in a Saturday semifinal.
It was a back-and-forth battle in the first quarter as the teams traded shots and took an 8-8 tie into the second quarter. Unicoi was able to use a run to take a 19-13 lead into the half.
The Lady Blue Devils continued to have the momentum in the third quarter as UC used a quick run to extend the lead and take a 21-21 lead into the fourth.
Happy Valley, however, didn’t go quietly as the Lady Warriors cut into the lead and outscored UC 18-8 in the frame. However, HV was unable to get back in front.
Alex Moore led Happy Valley with 18 points, while Amila Riddick added seven points.
