Lady Warriors take overtime victory; HV boys fall

It took an extra period, but the Lady Warriors got the job done.

Happy Valley picked up a 70-58 Three Rivers victory at Unicoi County on Tuesday night in Erwin. HV fell 55-45 in the boys’ game.

The Lady Warriors had to overcome a four-point deficit in the final minute of the game. After Adrienne Henegar scored 30 seconds into the overtime period, Happy Valley iced the game by going 17-of-20 from the free throw line in the extra period.

Kalee Johnson led the way with 18 points, while Heneger had 11 points. Puckett tallied eight points, while Emily Whitaker and Kenzie Davis along with Charli Bare had six points apiece.

In the boys’ game, the Warriors were unable to get in front as Unicoi County slowly pulled way. After trailing 9-6 at the end of the first quarter, the Blue Devils extended the lead to seven points at the half.

Nathan Kyte had 15 points to lead Happy Valley, while Josh Hammonds had 13 points. Austin Hicks added nine points.
