A short-handed Cloudland squad came up short on Friday night.

The ‘Landers dropped a 49-8 decision to Unicoi County on homecoming night at Orr Field.

Cloudland’s defense went toe-to-toe with the Blue Devils in the early going as Kingston Cole jumped on a Unicoi fumble, but CHS was unable to capitalize.

The Blue Devils broke onto the board on the next possession as Caleb Pelaez scored on a 40-yard touchdown run.

UC added another score later in the first as Nehemiah Edwards scored on a 45-yard run to give the Blue Devils a 14-0 lead.

Edwards struck again early in the second with a 19-yard run.

Cloudland continued to battle but came up short before the half.

Unicoi County took a 28-0 lead into the locker room after Pelaez scored on a 71-yard run.

The Blue Devils added a pair of scores in the third quarter.

Cloudland, however, answered in the fourth quarter with a strong drive that ended when Gage McKinney scored on a three-yard run.

McKinney finished with 29 carries for 70 yards, while Hayden Arnett had seven carries for 43 yards.

Jacob Stinnett nabbed an interception for the Cloudland defense.

Edwards finished with 193 yards on 17 carries, while Pelaez had two carries for 111 yards.
