Once Cloudland got going on Thursday night, West Greene had no answers.
The ‘Landers stormed to a 30-0 nonconference victory over the Buffaloes on the road Thursday evening to pick up their first win of the 2024 season.
In the game, Cloudland outgained the Buffaloes 252-31 with nearly all of West Greene’s offense coming in the fourth quarter.
Grayson Cole had four touchdowns for Cloudland and finished with 201 yards on 28 carries.
After Cloudland saw a promising opening drive stall out inside the West Greene red zone due to a fumble, the CHS defense rose to the occasion and forced WG off with a three-and-out.
From there, it was all Cloudland.
CHS scored two plays later as Cole raced 24 yards for a touchdown and then added the two-point conversion to give CHS an 8-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The ‘Landers saw Bryce Birchfield and Landon Barnette nab interceptions while Cole added an eight-yard touchdown and a three-yard touchdown. Barnette added a two-point conversion as CHS maintained a 22-0 lead at the half.
Cloudland held West Greene to (-3) yards of total offense in the first half.
The ‘Landers continued to hold the momentum in the second half.
Kingston Cole ended West Greene’s first drive of the second half with an interception, which set up a drive that ended with G. Cole scoring from 11 yards out. Birchfield added the two-point conversion.
From there, Cloudland continued to limit West Greene to secure the win.
Barnette added 35 yards rushing on five carries, while K. Cole added 18 yards.
Skylar Shelton led West Greene with 29 rushing yards.
Cloudland is set to return to action next Friday against Hancock County.
