‘Landers Win Thriller Over Longhorns, Lady ‘Landers Roll

Cloudland picked up a varsity sweep on Monday night.

The ‘Landers won a thrilling 43-42 victory over Johnson County, while the Lady ‘Landers rolled to a 68-33 win over the Lady Longhorns inside Sonny Smith Gymnasium.

In the boys’ game, it was a battle from the start.

Points were hard to come by in the opening quarter as Cass Turbyfill scored the lone CHS bucket, but the ‘Landers limited Johnson County to just five points in the five. The Longhorns led 5-2 after one.

The offense picked up in the second half as Nick Caraway gave Cloudland a boost with 11 points in the frame, and Cloudland closed the gap to 19-18 at the half.

Uriah Jarrett had a big third quarter for CHS as he scored eight points, and the ‘Landers outscored the Longhorns 12-6 in the quarter. That allowed CHS to take a 30-25 lead after three complete.

In the fourth quarter, the teams went back and forth down to the final seconds as Cloudland was able to hold off Johnson County for the win.

Caraway led Cloudland with 17 points, while Jarrett had 13 points. Gavyn Shell scored seven points.

Carter Atwood led the Longhorns with 13 points, while Darren Chappen had 12 points.

In the girls’ game, the Lady ‘Landers jumped out early.

Cloudland took a 22-9 lead into the second quarter, and never looked back as they maintained a 38-20 advantage at the half.

CHS continued to have full control in the second half to leave no doubt.

Makenzie Street scored 17 points to lead Cloudland, while Abby Clawson and Eowyn McCoury had 10 points apiece. Makinna Shell added 10 points.

Johnson County was led by Abby Dickens’ 11 points.
