LAFEYETTE, La. (Dec. 17, 2014) – Mickey Woods, Mike Woods Jr. and Morgan McLeod all scored 17 points, but the Milligan College men’s basketball team came up on the short end of a 115-76 decision to the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Wednesday night in an exhibition game.

Louisiana, an NCAA tournament team which lost to No. 3-seeded Creighton 76-66 in the West Region opening round last season, improved to 6-4. The Cajuns were 13-2 on their home court last season and improved to 5-0 at the Cajundome this season. Milligan’s record remained 10-4 (5-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference).

Woods and Woods Jr. combined to go 8-of-13 from 3-point territory, and Woods Jr. connected on each of his first four, going well into the second half without a miss. Milligan made 10 triples in all, matching the team’s season high.

McLeod scored three of his 17 points from downtown during a 7-0 Milligan run to start the game. Woods and James Songster also had baskets during the opening minute and a half, but it was all Louisiana from there. The Cajuns went on a 29-6 run coming out of the game’s second media timeout, extending the lead to 20, then used runs of 9-0 and 13-4 early in the second half to extend it to as many as 32.

The Cajuns were fresh off of a record night from beyond the 3-point line in their last game and continued with the hot hand in Wednesday’s victory. Louisiana shot 56.8 percent (42-74) from the field and 44.0 percent (11-25) from three. Junior Shawn Long led all scorers with 26 points and 10 rebounds, his 39th career double-double.

McLeod added six rebounds, a team-high five assists, and three steals. Julian Bailey had 10 points and five rebounds.

Milligan will continue its current road trip farther west, heading to Beaumont, Texas, for a game Friday against Lamar University in more exhibition. The Buffs are back home Jan. 10.
